The Difference Between Passion And Obsession
Passion and obsession are two similar realities, which are also very different. The first is associated with an amazing flow of emotional energy, which can lead to being able to go far beyond what is actually possible. The other paralyzes the will or limits its boundaries.
Thus, passion and obsession are cohesive realities. In other words, something can start as a passion and at some point cross a border where you are suddenly in an obsession. One can therefore say that obsession is a passion that has gone too far.
It may be true to say that passion and obsession are two sides of the same coin. Both of these subjective realities are created by a great deal of commitment, attention and a clear focus. However, one represents the constructive side and and the other the destructive.
Passion and obsession
In many cases, passion and obsession follow a line of continuity dedicated to external factors. It usually begins with an activity that you enjoy and that you suddenly find great pleasure in doing. The activity is so attractive that one becomes passionate about it.
Passion makes you dedicate a lot of time to such a task, and you make an effort to get better by setting the bar for perfection higher. Next, you achieve something, and in the process, you gain recognition for such an activity, and this is where the problems can begin.
It turns out that external recognition can be a negative factor. What used to be spontaneous and fun is now becoming an activity that is used to gain recognition from others. You no longer enjoy the process, but only the result. This is where it becomes an obsession.
The maze of occupation
When you become obsessed with a given activity because of the response you get from the result, the joy turns into worry. You begin to become dependent on others and become restless and stressed. In fact, some studies show that this addiction can even lead to unethical behavior.
The result is that the need for recognition from others gets out of control and becomes an obsessed passion accompanied by restlessness and even frustration. This addiction is not only emotional but also physical.
Dependence on external approval
Always pay attention to it so you do not fall into the trap. Then you can let your passion, and not your obsession, show you the way.
