Your relationship with your partner is one of the most significant relationships in your life. For that reason, it is essential to keep this bond healthy so that both parties are enriched and feel satisfied. On many occasions, however, one can overlook important warning signs in a relationship that indicate that something is not quite as it should be.

All conditions have different characteristics. However, they all involve certain risks. By having an emotional bond with another human being, you have a responsibility to yourself and the other person. Because of this, you really need to work on your relationship so that this friction does not wear you down and create negative emotions and suffering.

The following are some of the most damaging situations in relationships. Look for these warning signs in your own relationship and it will help you understand how it really goes. It will allow you to act accordingly.

You isolate yourself from other people

This can often happen at the beginning of a relationship  due to the intense desire of both parties to be together all the time. Alternatively, it can also happen later due to passivity created by spending all the time together.

It is also possible to end up in this situation when one or both parties have become overly jealous or possessive. You can consciously choose to dedicate most of your time with your partner.

Whatever the situation, it is one of the most important warning signs. Being in a relationship should not mean losing contact with those you love. Nor does it mean that you have to give up your work, study, hobbies or the time you dedicate to yourself.

All of these elements are essential to having a healthy and balanced life. Neglecting them can make you overly dependent on your partner.

You have an unbalanced relationship

It is common to observe that  one of the parties in a relationship generally invests more time, effort and energy in keeping the love alive than the other. It is always the same person who gives in, makes plans and contributes physically and emotionally.

Meanwhile, the other person is limited to receiving. The person is never completely grateful for what the other person is contributing to the relationship.

For the relationship to be healthy and enriching, this love and effort needs to be mutual. Otherwise, sooner or later it will be impossible for just one partner to carry. He will soon feel frustrated, sad and lonely.

That doesn’t mean both partners have to do things just always. In general, however, it is crucial that you feel you are on a common path together.

Lack of respect is a warning sign in a relationship

Respect is fundamental in any interpersonal relationship, but even more so in such an important relationship as this. Lack of respect can manifest itself in various ways. From the most obvious, such as physical or mental aggression, to the most common, such as making fun of the other person or belittling the partner’s interests, opinions or feelings.

Both parties need to know that lack of respect is not acceptable or permissible under any circumstances. No matter how angry or frustrated you are, you are an adult and you have to use other methods that do not cross this fine, red line.

If your partner makes you feel inferior, makes fun of you, ignores you or plays with your feelings,  do not accept it. Respect always starts with you and you should teach others how to treat you.

Insufficient communication

As the latter, aggressive, passive or inadequate communication is one of those alarm bells one cannot just ignore.

All couples will be faced with difficult situations at some point in their relationship, but  if they know how to communicate, they will be able to resolve conflicts painlessly and without any negative consequences.

Conversely, an inability to communicate in an honest and confident manner can significantly increase the distance between the parties.

If you act together on time, change behavior or even seek professional help, if necessary, it will help you heal the bond.

Human relationships are complex, and romantic relationships are even more so as they expose us to all of our flaws in a more obvious way. Therefore, it will improve your relationship if you put a lot of work into it.
