Self-esteem must be nurtured

There are two primary reasons why we continually neglect this aspect of our psyche. In general, the first cause is our childhood. It involves the way we are raised, whether our parents sought to validate us, make us feel valued, secure us, and enable us to succeed in life.

The second reason is especially important to keep in mind. Self-esteem is not a stable concept. It is not something you achieve and take with you for the rest of your life. This aspect of your mental and emotional architecture is often changeable. One single bad relationship or one single negative experience, and the way we interpret this experience can quickly undermine our self-esteem.

Self-esteem is like a garden. It requires almost daily care and maintenance. You have to work hard to tackle weeds, so good seeds and water the flowers that grow there. With that in mind  , we want to take a look at a simple technique to promote this form of self-care.

A technique to increase self-esteem

Many of us worry about what others think of us. So much so that sometimes it even goes so far as to hide aspects of our personality in order to gain acceptance and avoid being judged. Furthermore, the simple fact of living with a narcissistic person may even end up robbing us of our self-esteem.

We spend so much time trying to gain the care or approval of this person (whether it be a narcissistic parent, a narcissistic partner, etc.) that our self-esteem is slowly worn away to nothing.

It is important to create a distance between ourselves and this toxic person. That way, we can begin to heal from the trauma and rebuild our sense of self-worth.

As we mentioned earlier in this article, this is something that needs to be done on a daily basis. In a research project conducted by Crocker, J., and Parkh, LE (2004) at the University of Houston in Texas, it is highlighted that we spend our lives looking for sources that can help us strengthen our selfworth.

These sources can take the form of a new emotional relationship, a close group of friends, a good job, and so on.

However, this external quest is ultimately fruitless. The best way to increase your self-esteem is to focus your efforts inward. You cannot look outside for something that cannot be found inside.

Self-sabotage is the opposite of self-esteem. This practice, which is so destructive to our identity and mental well-being, usually takes the form of a negative and destructive inner dialogue:

“No matter how hard I try, I’ll never get good at it,” “It’s not worth trying because I know I will fail,” or “I’m not as focused or competent as those around me. . I know I will disappoint them. ”

There comes a time when your mind simply gets used to thinking these kinds of thoughts. It is a cycle we need to change, deactivate and break. One way to do this is by using the technique to increase self-esteem; “Only today”.

The technique involves the following:

  • Use a set of simple but powerful ideas to retrain your attitude towards life. By doing this you can begin to make peace with yourself. You can awaken your potential and change any negative thought you have cultivated over time.
  • These thoughts and solutions are meant to help you turn off the negative, inner dialogue.
  • You should work on a new aspect of your self-esteem every day.

Here are just a few examples of some of the solutions you can make use of:

  • Just today I want to be sweet to myself. I want to remind myself that I am brave and that I should love myself the way I deserve.
  • Just today I want to set myself a goal. I want to meet this goal and keep in mind that I am competent, brave and talented.
  • Today I want to distance myself from things that make me sad and everything that creates doubt and unhappiness. Just today I want to allow myself to do the things I feel like doing. I want to do the things that make me laugh and increase my self-esteem.

The best way to increase your self-esteem is to free yourself from fear and insecurity

When you live with feelings of insecurity, an intense fear of failing or not living up to the expectations of others and the persistent pain of thinking about whether you will ever be good enough, you are sabotaging yourself in every possible way.

It is a very personal thought process and something that only you can change. If you want to break with this habit, you need to increase your awareness of these negative thoughts.

You need to train your mind, harmonize your emotions, engage in behaviors that help you feel competent. You need to surround yourself with people who enrich your life and help you reach your potential. Try to remember the “Just for today” technique to help you increase your self-esteem. It is simple, effective and can ultimately change your life.
